The temperature is set to rise on the afternoon of Saturday 25 September 2010, when Vinopolis welcomes the Caribbean Tourism Organisation's (CTO) four-hour "Rum and Rhythm" fest! The CTO promises a rarely-seen extravaganza of sensations for the ears, eyes and taste buds, sponsored by British Airways; the "luxury included" resort Sandals and the Aruba Tourism Authority!
With a wide selection of exhibitors bringing the flavours and sounds of the world's favourite sun-holiday region to Central London, visitors will be able to dance to everything from merengue, salsa and calypso to reggae and soca whilst sipping tasters from a mind-boggling range of world-famous rums, from the light rums of Aruba to the darker variations of Jamaica.
In addition to sampling the mouth-watering rums and cocktails, attendees will be able to discover the origins of rum, learning about its history and fermentation, distillation, ageing and blending processes. There will also be an array of rum-based cocktails, such as Cuba Libre, Planter's Punch and Ti Punch, mixed throughout the afternoon.
Present during the afternoon will be Ian Burrell, known as the UK's rum ambassador and the man behind London's annual Rumfest.
On the culinary side, Barrington Douglas, renowned Chef who has appeared in Gordon Ramsey's 'F-Word', and cooked alongside Gary Rhodes in 'Rhodes Across the Caribbean', will be preparing some of the famous dishes served at Discovery Bay, his Caribbean restaurant in Huddersfield.
